Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. – Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Dr Seuss

We love days out as a family, but when we work Monday to Friday, and obviously with Joe being at school, our ‘big trips’ are confined to the school holidays. We don’t get to actually travel and visit new places anywhere near as much as I’d like to.

But as Jake is already making the transition to toddlerhood and Joe becomes ever more worldly-wise, the opportunites for exploring, for discovering and for getting out and about are increasing. Now having moved into a house that will not suck all of our hard-earned money into a bottomless pit of decorating despair, we might be able to treat ourselves to more weekends away in our beautiful country. We can take the boys on day trips to the seaside or the countryside – both within our reach in the North East of England, and there are some incredible places close to home. And we hope to take more proper holidays to see more of this big world of ours.

Port de Soller, Mallorca – Joe’s first holiday abroad

Joe has been abroad twice in his 6 years, both times to Mallorca’s stunning Port de Soller. The first time was in 2014, before I fell pregnant with Jake, and we returned there last July as a family of four, to stay in the same resort and hotel we loved so much. Jake had an early introduction to family holidays which was just wonderful, and I can’t wait to make more precious memories with them when we head back to Mallorca – to Cala D’or this time! – in summer 2017.

Look out for my ‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go!’ posts, inspired by the very wonderful Dr Seuss, as I’ll be talking about the places we’ve been and would still like to go, places I’d recommend, and where is on our wishlist, whether at home or away. I’d love for you to come with us.

This was the view from our balcony back in 2014 – we would just stand and marvel at it.

You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!

  • Ah, I love this! It really gets me in the holiday mood. We also find it hard to fit in holidays as much as we’d like, so I’m trying our first weekend abroad with Archie next week. We’re going to Benalmadena for a few days. Not sure if a few days will be worth it, but the flights were cheap so I thought why not!? Have a fab’ holiday in July. Looking forward to more #ohtheplacesyoullgo posts soon!x
