Dreamer with a day job

Happy New Year!

I’m not normally one for New Year resolutions, largely because I’m so rubbish at keeping to them, but I do enjoy the sense of a fresh start that the New Year brings.

2015 began with me in the early weeks of pregnancy, with our dating scan taking place only a few days into the year. There followed the rollercoaster months of having a high risk pregnancy, filled with nerve-wracking consultant appointments and extra scans. Then of course Jake arrived in the summer, healthy but huge, and I had a difficult few weeks of recovery. My biggest boy started school in September and we’ve been settling into our new family routines since then (as much as a newborn will allow!). I have sometimes felt overwhelmed and frustrated by everything I have wanted to do but haven’t been able to find time or energy for.

But now 2016 has arrived, bringing with it whole host of new possibilities and a planner of blank pages waiting to be filled. Jake will be 6 months old in a couple of weeks, he mercifully sleeps through the night, and we are embarking on his exciting weaning journey (more on that and our collaboration with HiPP Organic coming soon!). I’m no longer in the postnatal newborn haze, and each week I feel more like my old self.

A New Year’s Day pic of my boys

I’ve already shifted a good bit of baby weight and intend to return to my pre-pregnancy fitness levels before too long – I have a lot of catching up to do in my Miles For MAMA challenge which I was not really ready to start back in September, so I have about 800 miles to cover by July!

I return to my day job in April once my maternity leave comes to an end, but I’m also branching out into freelance writing and social media work with the launch of Little Rocket Media (very soon!) and I’m really looking forward to working with some very talented friends on various projects. Alongside all that, I obviously have a huge commitment to MAMA Academy – 2016 will be a very big year for us at the charity as we are growing all the time and the work we do is so important to me. I’m also collaborating with wonderful Susanne of Ghostwritermummy on the Maternity Matters website – watch this space for more on that as it develops.

And of course, there’s this blog. I have had some brilliant opportunities throughout 2015 and I’ve worked with some fantastic brands already. I’m hoping this year will bring new professional and personal relationships with more wonderful people – I’m still a bit over-excited when I get picked for stuff! I’m aiming to develop my blog in general this year by posting more regularly, trying some new things and running some fun projects. I may even make my first foray into vlogging!

Oh, and we’re trying to sell our house too.

So, in what seems to be the done thing now, my word for 2016 is POSITIVITY. Positivity is the mantra of MAMA Academy, and it’s something that I intend to apply to all areas of my life. With so much negativity in the world, my little corner of the Internet will be a sparkly beacon of goodness; I’ll be celebrating life’s little pleasures, and making a difference where I can.

This is the January picture on our new Edward Monkton calendar, and it’s just perfect for some New Year positivity. May your cups always be filled with happy tea everyone 🙂
